  • Betty, Abigail, and Tituba begin to shout out names of people they claim they saw with the Devil, in order to save their own lives. "As she is speaking... and picks up the chant"
  • Accusation
  • "I saw Elizabeth Proctor with the Devil"
  • When Mary comes to court in order to confess, that it was all pretend. Abigail and the other girls pretend Marry is a little bird to tear their eyes out. "Oh, Mary, this is black art to change your shape."
  • betrayal
  • Innocent people are accused of witchcraft, people become so terrified of witchcraft that thy are hung for a crime of witchcraft they did not commit. "seventy-two condemned to hang ..."
  • Abigail accuses Elizabeth Proctor for dealing with the Devil because she is in love with Proctor and wants to get Elizabeth out of the way. So she can have him all to herself.
  • After Mary sees that the girls are turning on her and she has no other way to save her life other than play along with them and put the blame of witchcraft on someone else. So she blames Proctor. "Mary Warren, pointing at proctor: You're the Devil's man!"
  • Anyone even mentioned in the court was brought to be judged, anyone who did something suspicious was also brought to court. "I only said she were readin' books, sir, and they come and take her..."
