  • We are giving you no choice, King John, but to sign the Magna Carta.
  • It states two main principals. One, it asserts that the nobles have certain rights. Two, it makes it clear that the monarch must obey the law.
  • Emperor Henry IV! Pope Gregory VII has banned lay investiture! He says that only the pope has the right to appoint and install bishops in office!
  • That is ridiculous! Bishops hold land as royal fiefs, and as their overlord, I am entitled to give the them the symbols of office! I'll show that pope!
  • The Byzantine emperor, Alexius I, has asked me, Pope Urban II, for Christian knights to help him fight the Turks. Now, I ask the bishops and nobles to assist him in battle.
  • Council of Clermont
  • The Black Death was an epidemic in the 1300s that killed sixty percent of Europe's population. It was spread by rats and fleas and was carried down trading routes all throughout Europe. It killed both the rich and the poor and was easily spread due to unsanitary living and crowded areas. There was no cure at the time for the disease.
  • This cursed disease is killing me!
  • Help! I've been bitten by a flea!
  • When Edward III of England claimed the French crown in 1337, war erupted between England and France. Thee Hundred Years' War led to the development of new technologies. The longbow allowed England to achieve several victories during the war. However, a peasant woman, Joan of Arc, had led a French army to many victories against England. The French also developed the cannon, which ultimately helped them win the war and rendered the English castles as useless.
  • I have been crowned king of France!
  • Castles were fortified structures used to protect a manor, during the middle ages. Castles large stone buildings with many defenses. They typically had a moat, or man-made waterway, surrounding them and a drawbridge that was used to cross the moat. Castle walls were also several feet thick, guarding the inside, with arrow slits throughout them for archers to shoot arrows through. They also had battlements for the defenders to hide behind, as well as round watch towers that gave a 360 degree view around the castle. The final form of defense was the keep, which was in the inner castle and had extremely thick walls and was highly fortified.
  • No one can get me if I hide inside my castle!
