The princesses were met by the princes at a large lake. The princes put the princesses in boats and rowed them across the lake. The soldier jumped in with the youngest princess and prince.
They rowed to a great castle where they were met by the sound of trumpets. The princesses danced with the princes until their shoes were in shreds.
As they went back to the castle, completely exhausted, the soldier went ahead of them and jumped in his bed. The princesses made sure he was still asleep. He followed them the same way for the next two nights. On the second night he took a golden cup.
On the third day, the king called the soldier in and asked him what he had found. The soldier told him the story, but the king could not believe it. Then the soldier showed him the branches and the golden cup. The king believed him now!
The king called in his daughters and they admitted the truth. So the king told the soldier that he could choose a wife out of his daughters.
Now the soldier had fell in love with the eldest daughter. He thought her clever, spirited and beautiful. And as for the princess, she though him clever and kind. So they were married. And the wedding guests happily danced the night away.
