  • Description: The hero travels over a variety of settings over his journey. Distance makes the hero's actions greater because they aren't selfish Explanation:  Beowulf leaves his home and travels to Denmark. Much of the action in Beowulf takes place in Herot, but Beowulf also goes and kills Grendel's mother in her underwater lair.
  • Trait 7- Faces Supernatural Foes/ Supernatural Help
  • Description: Before a hero can be celebrated, he must first be recognized in home country as a heroic person Explanation: Beowulf is beloved by the Geats and strongest of the Geats. He is eventually glorified for his defeat with Grendel, and later for his defeat with Grendel's mother.
  • Description: Hero is not a braggart or willing to take applause. Explanation:  Beowulf is not trying to seek glory or frame. He was motivated by the idea that he is meant to rid the monsters (Grendel)
  • Description: Most heroes receive aid from a god or battle some superhuman enemy Explanation-Beowulf fights Grendel and his mother who are both supernatural enemies.
