  • Middleman brings both parties to the Sahara desert and sets up a drum.
  • West Africa sets down their gold and leaves, also banging the drum to signify to the North African trader that he is done while the North Africa trader takes look at the amount
  • If the North Africa likes the amount, they take the gold and leave the salt again, banging the drum.
  • If the North African like the amount they leave the goods their and hide while west Africa brings more goods
  • West Africa will take the goods and leave their gold. 
  • Silent bartering allowed people who  spoke different languages to trade, it also allowed the Wangarans to keep the mines hidden
