  • CONFLICT
  • RISING ACTION
  • The story begins with the young children who start gathering the stones for the yearly lottery. Meanwhile, the villagers all gather around to see the lottery that takes place at the end of June. Every head of each family takes a slip of paper from Mr.Summers black box where the lottery is pulled.
  • CLIMAX
  • The conflict begins when Tessie Hutchinson's husband Bill pulls a slip with a  strange marking which has the black dot. Tessie argues that her husband did not have enough time to pull a slip and say he should pull again.
  • FALLING ACTION
  • Everyone in the Hutchinson family is called up to the podium to draw a piece of paper for the lottery. The family is Bill, Tessie, Bill Jr, Nancy, and little Davy.
  • RESOLUTION
  • After each family member takes a slip of paper,  Everyone's paper is blank except for Tessie's slip of paper which has the black dot.
  • Tessie starts to scream that it is not fair and it is not right  meanwhile the villagers  are circling around Tessie and gathering the stones left out.
  • While Tessie is screaming the entire village started to throw their stones at Tessie while she is screaming the oldest man in the village urges the villagers to keep going.
