  • Beowulf Grendel's mother has taken a dear friend of ours. "Our only help, Again, lies with you."(443-444)
  • Okay, I will go and defeat her and gain even more fame!
  • So Beowulf swam down to the bottom of the lake to face Grendel's Mother
  • "Grendel's mother is hidden in her terrible home, in a place you've not seen. Seek it if you dare!"(444-446)
  • He swam down to the depths and "Then he saw the mighty water witch and swung his sword,"(474-475) but it wasn't enough and it broke in half.
  • Beowulf was in trouble as many other sea monsters also joined in on the fight almost killing him.
  • Beowulf then lifted the sword and struck the monsters down killing them.
  • "Then he saw, hanging on the wall, a heavy sword, hammered by giants, strong and blessed with their magic,"(513-515)
  • Beowulf then hunted down the already dead body of Grendel and "then struck off his head with a single blow."(543-544)
