"I'll be much closer to work, and Josie can have the car to shop once in a while. We'll still come out on weekends. It's only five miles"
"You think you're too good for us." Uncle Luis shouted at Papa in Spanish, "just because you finished high school and have a job in town!"
Papa wants to move into town, but his brother says "You think you are too good for us." Papa says it's because he wants to move closer to work. In reality it was time for Junior to use English as his main language. He would also get much better schooling in town. Papa said "Times have changed... He'll have to live in the English-speaking work"
You hate me, because I don't speak spanish and have yellow hair.
Chango and his gang, Los Indios, went up to Junior and called him out for stepping on his shoe. They were speaking in spanish ignoring the nuns request. They called him "Ojos Largos" and aproched him. Chango called him a chicken, and started to fight him. Junior fliped him over even though he was 2 grades higher. They were impressed and invited him into thier gang called Los Indios
Los Indios were looking for new adventures. They took the long way home past the Fourth Street Elementary and they spotted Junior's new neighbor. Chango shouted and they chased after him. He ended up escaping that day, but he saw who they were. That became their favorite after-school past time. They ended up catching him and beating him up.
Junior saw the kid he had beat up with Los Indios. Dever's mom came out and explained that they should hang out sometime. Junior's mom came out and said that there was a movie in town. Junior did not want to take him. His father said that he had to take him if he wanted to go. He lied and said he is an albino Indian. At first they laughed but then later accepted him.
I hate Okies.
Denver was accepted into the group and they enjoy their favorite movie together. Junior told Denver what to yell out when the time came.
Maten los gringos!
At the end of the story, Junior felt as if he was in between 2 worlds. On one hand he was hanging out with Los Indios, and on the other hand he is becoming friends with a white okie named Denver. He came from a Spanish concentrated background and now he was slowly fitting into the English speaking world.
