Storyboard Text

  • Title
  • Paraphrase
  • I like illegal alcohol!
  • Me too! I also like and own stocks! The future is in stocks!
  • Connotation
  • We love dancing the Charleston!
  • Using context clues from the title, I predict that the poem is about the twenties. I chose this image because when I think of the  twenties I think of flappers and  speakeasies.
  • Attitude
  • The Roaring 20s will never end!
  • This poem is summarizing life in the twenties. It is capturing the partying lifestyle from the twenties, until the stock market crashed. I chose this image because I think that it sums up the twenties and the poem.
  • Shifts
  • THE STOCK MARKET HAS CRASHED! THE STOCK MARKET HAS CRASHED!
  • The author used personification when he said ¨The Charleston conquered the dance floor¨ because a dance cannot conquer anything. Also, he is using a metaphor when he says ¨drowns out the roar¨ because there was no actual roar.
  • Title & Theme
  • I shouldn't have spent so much money on partying and stocks and alcohol!
  • I think the tones of the poem are jazzy, but a little bit somber. Towards the end, the poem takes a dark turn, but the beginning  is light and happy.
  • Towards the end of the poem, the mood shifts from being about the partying lifestyle of the twenties to the despair of the stock market crash.
  • My view of the title of the poem has not changed. I still believe that the poem is about the Roaring 20s, and nothing else. The theme of the poem is that you have to be responsible. The people during the twenties were not responsible with their money. The government was not responsible in creating a faulty economic system.
