  • Charles Deslondes was a slave driver on the Andry sugar plantation in the German Coast area of Louisiana.
  • Charles, inspired by the Haitian revolt, rallied the other slaves to rebel.
  • Charles and the slaves, killed their slavers and their family.
  • Armed with weapons, Charles and followers moved toward New Orleans gaining more followers as they moved.
  • The South Carolina congressman, slave master and Indian fighter Wade Hampton was assigned the task of suppressing the insurrection.
  • After a giant fight, sadly Charles Deslondes lost due to lack of military experience.
