Langston Hughes was born on February 1, 1902, his dad moved right after he was Langston was born. The closest person to Langston was his grandma. He was close to his grandma because his mom was never really around, so his grandma cared for him. When Langston was born there was segregation.

When Langston was in high school he tried to write for the school but the people that ran that rejected him many times. Although he got rejected many times he didn't lose faith and ended up writing magazines.

Langston Hughes died on May 22, 1967. People honored him and went to watch his coffin be buried under ground. Many people know him as one of the best poets of all time if not the best of all time.
Langston would write strips in the newspaper "The Chicago Defender". In those strips he would write his poetry for the city and world to see. He also wrote kids books that kids loved.
Langston wrote poetry for his main career ,but he also did some other things also. He wrote lyrics for musicals sometimes. He also had interest in writing auto biographies.
