  • Suspense in: The Shining.
  • Room 237
  • 237
  • Those Friggin' Twins
  • Come Play With Us
  • In my opinion, The Shining is one of the best works of Steven King that utilizes suspense. Here are some great examples of that.
  • The Same line Over and Over.
  • In the film, 237 is the room that Danny, the boy, is not told to go into. The room itself is said to be scary. So Jack, the father, goes in and discovers a rotting corpse of an old woman.
  • Here's Johnny!
  • Here's Johnny!
  • It's one of the most iconic scenes in film history. Danny is riding his trike through the halls of The Timberline Lodge. He comes upon these twin girls holding hands. They ask Danny to play with them and then a split second happens where it shows both girls are dead and covered in blood. Every time I see that scene, I get chills.
  • In the film, Jack is a author and he's finding inspiration in the hotel. His wife, Wendy, comes around to look at what he's got. The phrase "All work and no play makes Jack a Dull boy" appears on several lines of paper. Then Jack comes up out of nowhere holding an axe leading up to the the next part...
  • All work and no Play makes Jack and dull boy. All work and no Play makes Jack and dull boy. All work and no Play makes Jack and dull boy.
  • This is another iconic scene and iconic line in this movie. After Wendy reads all of Jack's pages,  he starts to become crazy. He begins to chase her around the house ending up in the Bathroom. She locks herself in there and Jack starts using an axe to chop his way through, saying the famous catchfrase that everyone quotes when entering any room.
  • Yet another famous scene from this movie. On the trip at the hotel, Danny starts acting strange. He keeps repeating the phrase "REDRUM" and no one knows what it means. That is until he writes it on a  door, in lipstick, and the message becomes clear." REDRUM" is actually "MURDER."
