  • At the beginning of the story Montresor was a bitter man who wanted revenge on a man named Fortunato for insulting him.

  • Montresor makes of a plan to kill Fortunato without getting caught.

  • Montresor convinces Fortunato to test his wine by insisting that someone else can do it for him.

  • Montresor brings him to his vaults and keeps asking if he wants to go back so Fortunato would want to keep going.
  • Montresor chains Fortunato to a wall and starts to build a brick wall over him and while doing that he laughs at Fortunato's screams.
  • Montresor got away with the murder because Fortunato wasnt found until a half century later.
