Storyboard Text

  • Mr. Heron offers me a job in delivering top-secret letters. On the way to deliver it, under the pretense of going fishing, I come across Betsy, who says she is going to visit Sam. I ask her how she figured out where he is, and in the process of her explanation, accedently let it slip that I visited Mr. Heron. She then guesses I have a letter from him, and tries to take it from me saying that it is a spy report on the rebels, and will result in Sam's death. She manages to take it from me nd run away. However when she opens it and tosses it behind her, all it says is: If this message is recived, we will know that the messenger is reliable.
  • A few months after the letter incident, father needs to sell his cattle, and needs a boy to help. He doesn't want to take me because of the dangers of the road, but has no choice. We were to ride to Connecticut, sell the beef, stay with our cousins, and ride hoe with the goods. However along the way, we meet the cowboys who steal our cattle, but we meet up with some tories who recover the cattle and give us a safe journey to Connecticut where we buy goods and stay with our cousins. Unfortunately, on our way back to Redding, we do not have an escort, and father goes ahead of me and says he will check back occasionally, and will come and tell me if he sees the cowboys. On the way, father stops coming, and the cowboys confront me and I trick them to leave me alone. Once home, I explain the situation to mother, and a few months later recive news that father has died from cholera.
  • Months later, Sam's troops are riding through Redding. I ask one of the officers if they could find Sam for me. That one doesn't, but one who overheard does. Sam comes to our barn, and I bring mother to see him. Mother tries to concvince him to stay using the fact that father is dead. He refuses to leave, but it is actually just for the excitment that he stays in the army. Later, we hear sounds from the cattle. We rush out side and try to stop the men from taking the cattle. We get the cattle back, but Sam is taken in as a cattle thief. I appeal to Colonel Parsons and General Puntam, but it doesn't work. My brother Sam is dead.
