Was Khalil a drug dealer?
JUSTICE FOR KHALIL!
In this scene Starr and her mother talk to the detectives for the first time after the Khalil incident. This relates to the quote because she didn't fully tell the story when she had the chance to and she wasn't using her true voice because she got emotional about the cops trying to twist her words.
In this scene the students at Williamson plan a protest for Khalil first period to get a free day at school. Starr feels like she wants to puke, scream, and cry. This relates to the quote because the rich white kids at Williamson can actually use their voice for awareness but instead they used it just to get out of class.
In this scene Hailey made a racist comment to Starr saying that if she pretended that the ball was fried chicken she would stay on it. Starr used her voice by calling her out on it in the locker room for saying that comment to her. This relates to the quote because she could of just kept playing basketball but Hailey would of said something racist again because she wasn't stopped the first time.
