  • Cross sections of tree branches can graphically show you the growth rings of a trees life.
  • Trees need air, water, and food to live and grow.  
  • Each ring represents a year of growth. Wide rings indicates good health while narrow rings indicate less favorable conditions.
  • Class, you will imagine you are a tree and draw a cross section of your lives, representing your age in growth.
  • Class we are going to play a game called "Every Tree for Itself," You will simulate a tree and gather as many squares as you can.
  • Each color represents a different essential a tree needs. Water, sunlight, Food. 
  • Students you will record your total # of each squares gathered in your notebook.
  • In this round, you will stand closer together and compete to grab your essentials. There are also fewer squares to compete  for.
  • How many requirements did each tree get? How does it compare to the last round when trees are further apart vs. when they are closer?
  • What do you predict will happen to the trees that are not getting enough essentials?
