Storyboard Text

  • Wait, are you Thomas Hobbes?
  • Yes, yes I am.
  • OMG! I love your article The Leviathan. Oh, and your speech on Absolutism, it was inspirational. I totally agree with what you think that people are born aggressive.
  • I've always wondered Thomas, what is the Enlightenment and when was it?
  • The Enlightenment is where philosophers emphasized human reason and logic and explored the ideas of "natural rights" such as equality and liberty. It was also in the 17th century.
  • Thomas Hobbes! Not you again.
  • John Locke, the opposite of a good humanist. Voltaire and Montesquieu, how annoying of you guys to join me. What do you guys want?
  • A humanist is a person that believes in the dignity of humans.
  • Well Thomas, if I may ask, what is this humanist you speak of.
  • Hey Montesquieu, do they sound as dumb to you as to me?
  • Sure do Voltaire, stay here if you want, but I'm out of here.
  • Oh please, if I wanted to listen to your opinion, I would have asked for it. But, guess what I didn't!
  • Oh, I remember now, your not supposed to even be a part of it.
  • Oh really Hobbes, we all know I started the Scientific Revolution. You know, the time of thinking about the world based on observation and questioning.
  • I'm not listening to these two.
  • I'm not a cruel person or anything, but I think you should be sent to the guillotine, like Olympe de Gouges when she argued for women's rights. Hey, maybe you should try that.
  • The guillotine cuts off people's heads.
  • Why you monster, I am not half a fool you are! What is a guillotine?
  • You know Locke, you wouldn't be here trying to spread your useless ideas if wasn't for Bacon and Descartes. You know, they founded the Enlightenment.
  • I believe people have a natural right to life and liberty. Hobbes, you don't even care about the citizens rights. Yet your calling me the opposite of a humanist.
