  • Early Life/ First Occupation
  • Instead of being a lawyer, I want to become a monk.
  • Views on Catholic religion. 
  • The Pope has no right to choose the meaning of bible scriptures.
  • Martin Luther was born on November 10, 1483 in Eisleben, Saxon in modern Germany. His parents were Hans and Margarette Luther.
  • What he did
  • Martin first wanted to be a lawyer and went to the University to Erfurt but,  in 1505 realized he wanted to become a monk so he then went to the University of Wittenberg.
  • Later Life
  • Martin Luther publicly attacked the papacy in a letter, and was then threatened with excommunication. He publicly burned the letter and was officially excommunicated from the Roman Catholic Church.  The Diet of Worms released the Edict of Worms banning Luther's writing. 
  • Death
  • Martin Luther created Lutheranism in Wittenberg Castle Church in 1522 which was supported by many people and German princes. He wrote the 95 theses. In 1524 he sided with rulers over peasants and his church grew over the years.

  • Luther married Katharina von Bora in 1525 and they had six children.  He became the dean of theology at the University of Wittenberg. 
  • Martin Luther had many illnesses leading up to his death. He died on February 18, 1546 in his hometown of Eisleben, Saxony, Germany due to a stroke.
