  • Who will present the resolutions of the Convention of 1833 to the Mexican Government?
  • Seguin
  • Not me.
  • Dr. Miller
  • I can go! I have been to Mexico City many times and have a good relationship with them.
  • I have to stay and help the sick.
  • Austin
  • October 2nd in Mexico City...
  • I've been waiting for 3 months here and Santa Anna is still not here...I need to write a letter to the Texans.
  • October 2, 1833 I have waited impatiently for Santa Anna but there have been no changes made. I suggest that the leaders of Texas come together and form a temporary state government. - Stephen F. Austin
  • January 1834
  • I can't believe Santa Anna was able to make some changes but on my way back home I got arrested because the Mexican government thought my letter was treason.
  • After Austin's release...
  • Events later showed Austin that Santa Anna was becoming a dictator. Austin's opinion on the Mexican government changed. Austin was no longer for the Mexican government like he had always been.
  • War is our only recourse. There is no other remedy. We must defend our rights, ourselves, and our country by force of arms.
