  • The greatest accomplishment of the Silk Road was the diffusion of the cultures. However through this network, disease travelled as well and was brought to other other  civilizations
  • The discovery of a sea route from Europe to Asia in the late 15th century dealt a damaging blow to the silk roads popularity.
  • The Ottoman Empire boycotted this trade route with the west and closed the routes in 1453 CE
