Bruno is a nine-year-old boy who is very friendly and not judgemental towards others. Bruno is a round character because throughout the book you can see the way he acts and how the choices he makes affect him. He is a dynamic character because he didn't know why there were people on the other side of the fence and his attitude didn't change once he met one.
Technique 1 (Foreshadowing) " I don't see why I have to be stuck over here on this side of the fence where there's no one to talk to and no one to play with and you get to have dozens of friends and are probably playing for hours every day."
I wonder if Bruno can fit under the fence and come play with me?
Hmmm, maybe I could break the rules and crawl under this fence.
Lieutenant Kotler has a very bad temper, doesn't care about others and is charming with the ladies. He is a flat character because you don't know much about him but sometimes he appears in the bok. Kotler is a static character because he didn't have a problem killing Jews doesn't go under any significant change.
Technique 2 ( Irony) " All in all, it seemed like a very sensible plan and a good way to say goodbye."
In the novel The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, John Boyne illustrates friendship and love through Bruno and Schmuel. Bruno and Schmuel show they have a very strong friendship that is unbreakable. They do this by talking all day almost every day and also eating food together. The love they have for each other shows how good of friends they are and how much they care about each other.
Technique 3 ( Mood) " Sitting around miserable all day won't make you any happier."
This quote foreshadows Bruno crawling under the fence so he can play with the other children on that side of the fence and have some friends.
This quote shows that the plan of crawling under the fence seemed like a good idea and a good way to say goodbye but Bruno and Schmuel didn't know that that would be their last goodbye.
This quote clearly illustrates how the whole book feels. Bruno is never truly happy because him and Schmuel never being able to hang out because of the fence and Bruno misses his friends back in Berlin, so overall the whole book is very gloomy and tragic.
