Paul is sleeping and a vision " left its seeds while I was sleeping" (Simon, 4). This shows the tone of foreboding and the mood of solemn. He is alone in a dark room. The green lines are symbolic of the seeds that were left behind by the vision.
Paul see's " Ten thousand people maybe more" (Simon, 16), but they were "talking without speaking"(Simon, 17)This is where the theme of how communities can have problems communicating emotion gets mentioned. The empty speech bubbles show that people are "talking without speaking"(Simon, 17)
Paul tried to help with the issue of miscommunication but his words " like silent raindrops fell, and echoed in the wells of silence" (Simon, 27-28). This shows that the community was to entwined in " The Sound of Silence" to hear his words and receive his help.
