Families before this time owned their own businesses and farms, but due to industrialization, there was a decrease in family based cottage industries.
Most men were either working or in the military, but with factories becoming more and more common, the economy needed more workers for less money; so women and children entered the work place as cheap labor.
Laws regarding keeping workers safe were slim and flexible, so laborers often times got hurt and injured on the job becuase of unsafe working conditions.
Rain, sleet, snow or hail; employers wanted to meet their quota and the demand for the goods they were producing, so many employees had to work through very harsh working conditions.
With all of the issues at work with the harsh conditions and unsafe situations there was a large dissatisfaction within the working class with these conditions.
With the introduction of long railroads and smog from factories from this point on in history our earth was cursed with A LOT of environmental pollution.
