It was the morning and Janet had woken up to the realization that her big test on energy was today.
(Yawn) I can't belive that I fell asleep without studying for my test!
She walked into the kitchen to eat breakfast
Ugh.... what was that test even about? Energy...?
Oh yeah! It was about types of energy and energy transfer!
Janet walked out, slamming the door. Not even realizing that she had used the door which is a simple machine. The doorknob is a wheel and axle. She later used the stairs which is another simple machine-an inclined plane. When she slammed the door she was doing work. She applied force to the door and the door moved in the same direction that it was applied (power).
I think that one of the types of energy was mechanical energy, the energy of movement. I am using it right now!
She walked to the bus trying to think of more forms of energy. Later, she remembered that the bus uses gas and that is chemical energy. The gas is heated and burned which is thermal energy. The thermal energy is transferred to mechanical energy when the bus moves.
Hmm, I wonder what kind of energy the bus uses...... Well, it needs gas to move....
She got of the bus and it was almost time for her big test.
Oh no! It is almost time for my test and I only know a few types of energy!
She sat down trying to remember what she was supposed to study.
