Hello! I am from Ainu tribe and I am glad that you are interested in finding out more about us
We are indigenous people of Japanese Archipelago and we are living here from the most ancient times
Eventhough we live in Japan, ethnically we are a lot more closer to Russians
We are the masters of oral narration. Our Yukar traditional stories can compete even with Japanese Rakugo. We flourished during Edo period.
But during 19th and 20th centuries, because of the smallpox and increased nationalistic movements in Japan, We falled into decay and almost completely got assimilated by Japanese.
Today only about 40000 Ainus are left, but aproximately there are 160000 more that lost connection with their roots and don't even know that they are Ainu. Number of these people is increasing everyday, so, we guess it's too late to save us, but we will continue living in our stories and in the minds of readers
