George belittles Lennie by calling him a bastard after George yells at Lennie for not knowing where his work card was.
George's anger takes control of him after Lennie says he wishes he could have ketchup. Geroge rudely lets Lennie know that he is ungrateful and he could be doing better off without Lennie.

George lies to the new boss and tells him that he and Lennie are cousins and George has to look after Lennie because George lies to the boss and tells him that Lennie got kicked in the head by a horse when he was younger and that's why he acts like he is dumb.
Carlson tries to convince Candy that killing his old dog is the right thing to do because, the dog is suffering from pain, but this leads Candy to emotional heartbreak because how insensitively his dog was killed because Carlson failed to realize the bond between Candy and his dog.

Lennie accidentally kills Curley's wife out of anger because she allowed him to touch her hair and Lennie could not stop touching her hair because he liked to feel nice soft things. Soon Curley's Wife was yelling at Lennie trying to make him let go of her hair. Lennie was startled by the yelling and tried to get Curley's wife to stop yelling because George had told Lennie if he did one bad thing on the ranch he wouldn't let him tend to the bunnies on their dream ranch
“Don’t you go yellin’, he said, and he shook her; and her body flopped like a fish. And then she was still for Lennie had broken her neck”(91)
After Lennie kills Curley's wife Lennie runs away from the ranch to the place George tells him to meet him if Lennie ends up doing something bad. George tells the men on the ranch where they could find Lennie and George tell the men not to kill Lennie because he didn't kill Curley's Wife out of anger it was just because he is disabled.
