  • Gaylene, have you heard what Mr. Linton did to his wife? People say that he has a personality disorder.

  • Yes and Hickling & Walcott (2013) posits that, .........
  • Oh yes, it seems as though many persons suffer with this mental health problem.  The DSM-V states that there are many types of personality disorders like, paranoid personality disorder,antisocial personality disorder, borderline personality disorder or avoidant personality disorder, only to name a few.  (p. 645)
  • What does unit 9 states about the disorder that criminals are likely to display?
  • That is correct!  Do you know what is said about the disorder that criminals are likely to display? ...........
  • Oh I see, but I also heard that criminals display lack of empathy with abstract social concepts, rigid and inflexible in their thinking, poor at tolerating ambiguity and often use a form of reasoning that is simplistic.
  • Gaylene:   .....this personality thing is mental disorder which affects the thinking, functioning and behavioural patterns of individuals and a few tenets of personality disorder are “disruptive, inflexible, and enduring behavior patterns that impair one’s social functioning” (Myers, 2013)

This disorder can be manifested in many ways, for example, through a series of violent acts and may be caused by a combination of genetic and social issues.

  • Yes and I also heard that offenders are often socially handicapped without recognising this fact and treatment is needed to correct impulsiveness in offenders as they often lack self-control.

  • Oh Susan this is why most men commit violent crimes? They believe that they are ‘above the law’.
  • Gaylene......which indicates repeated lying, use of aliases or conning others for personal profit or pleasure.
  • Yes Gaylene, the men lack any sense of remorse or caring for each other. Imagine brutally committing a  murder without any knowledge of the victims.
