During the Vietnam war Tan lee and her family were affected. Life was hard in Vietnam they had less opportunities. And was dangerous.
She was about to make the biggest dicision of her life, to travel to Australia. It was good to avoid the war, and start a new life.
They boarded the boat which lasted five days and five nights. On the boat she had she feared of pirates, rape and death. Tan Le's mother had a small bottle of poison that they would drink if any pirates came.

They arrived at Australia (Melbourne, Footscray) she felt very scared: Some days were tough and hard for Tan Le and he family.
Tan le's mother worked on a farm and then on a car assembly line. She worked 6 days a week double shifts. She later opened a computer store and later became a beautician.
At her school Tan Le and her sister had to wear a dress down to the ankles so it could last 6 years. Tan Le got bullied she was called "slit eye" and "asian go home", she would wonder "go home were".
