Storyboard Text

  • Hi jill, thanks for meeting me. I need some help with meiosis. What stage are you in.
  • Well Sam, I am in Telophase 1 and Cytokinesis. That means that I am dividing in 2 new cells and 2 new nuclear membranes are forming.
  • Hi Ms. Miller,  can you tell what the difference between meiosis and mitosis before we go into the second part of meiosis.
  • Certainly Sam, as you already know in mitosis cells divide one but in meiosis cells divide twice. Because of the extra division there in genetic variation in meiosis but not mitosis. Otherwise they are similar.
  • Because of the extra dividing there is genetic variation. When there are genetic combinations there is more genetic diversity
  • So I heard about your project, I am in prophase 2. This is where the spindle forms and everything moves to the middle in the 2 daughter cells
  • Awesome, thanks for your help
  • What phase of meiosis are you in ?
  • Thanks for your help
  • I am in metaphase 2 which means that my chromosomes are lining up in the middle of the cell. Next I will be in anaphase 2. this means that the sister chromatids separate and move to opposite sides.
  • What is the last stage of meiosis ?
  • The last stage of meiosis is telophase 2 and cytokinesis. That is when the 2  chromatids move completely to the opposite ends and the 2 cells become 4
  • We learned a lot about cells and meiosis today. Thank you for all your help and come back tomorrow so we can learn more.
