Johannes Kepler: German Astronomer
Johannes was born on December 27, 1571 in Weil der Stadt, Wüttemberg, in the Holy Roman Empire. His family was not rich but his intelligence got him a scholarship to the University of Tübingen where he studied Lutheran ministry
I love school!
While he worked as a mathematician in Graz, he wrote the first outspoken defense of the Copernicus system, the Mysterium Cosmographicum. He later leaved Graz because of the he was Lutheran during the time of the counter Reformation and moved Prague to work with renowned Danish astronomer, Tycho Brahe.
So good to have you apart of the group!
Once Tycho Brahe died in 1601, Kepler took his position as Imperial mathematician and using the data that Tycho collected he discovered that Mars moved in an elliptical orbit. In 1601 he published Astronomia Nova, detailing his discoveries, which were Kepler's two laws of planetary motion.
So the planets move in an elliptical orbit.
Johannes laws of planetary motion include: 1.Planets move in an elliptical orbits with the sun at one focus. 2.The radius vector describes equal areas in equal times. 3.The squares of the periodic times are to each other as the cubes of the mean distances.
