The Articles of Confederation was the first plan of amendment Confederal. Though, the Articles had more cons than pros, as it was too weak to do much.
Is this anyway to run a country?
The Articles had many weaknesses. It was the colonists attempt at making a government that wasn't too powerful.. The Articles could not regulate trade, had no federal or national court , could not tax or collect tax.
The people started to realize after they needed to change. They couldn't do anything about crimes, or anything considered illegal since there wasn't a court.
"We couldn't do anything! My dad's farmland was taken away, he went to the bank and asked for some money to grow crops for the army! Now the government took away his farmland because he couldn't pay the bill.."
There was a document known as the 'Northwest Ordiance' . It listed a bill of rights in the territory, and also let new states become part of the territory.
The Land of Ordinance was adopted and it allowed people to buy farmland in the undeveloped west, until the Homestead act came up in 1862.
