Some Fun Facts about Phosphorus are: 1. Often referred to as the "Devil's Element," as it was the thirteenth element discovered and for its combustibilities. 2. It is a vital part of living cell, like the nervous tissues and bones.
Some physical properties of Phosphorus are: 1. It has 3 main colours red, white & black. 2. It is solid at room tempature. 3. Pure Phosphorus is colourless. 4. Black Phosphorus is ductile. 5. Black Phosphorus looks and acts like graphite.
Next I would like to talk about the physical and chemical properties. A chemical property of Phosphorus is that it is unsoluble in water. It has a melting point of 44.1 Degrees Celsius & a boiling point of 280 Degrees Celsius.
Three common uses for Phosphorus are: 1. In the making of steel. 2. White Phosphorus is used in the making of fireworks and flares. 3. Red Phosphorus is used in the material you strike to light a match.
The high amount phosphor in the surface of the water has increased the growth of phosphate dependent organisms like "algae" and "duckweed". These organisms require a large amount of oxygen and prevent sunlight from entering into the water. The water beccomes fairly unliveable for other organisms commonly known as eutrphication.
Phosphorus can be found in the environment as phosphates. These phoshates are important substances in the human body because they are a part of our DNA and they help energy distrubution. Too much phosphate can cause multiple health problems such as kidney damage and osteoporosis.
