Emmett Till Project Pt. 2
This storyboard does not have a description.
That week, as Till was leaving a general supplies store, he was reported to flirt with the white store owner, Carolyn Donham.
Woooohooooh, buy Baby!
How Dare You!
That quick flirt would be fatal for Emmett Till. That same week, Donham's husband and his stepbrother went to teach Till a lesson. The last lesson he would ever learn.
This darn African American disrespecting my wife! He'll learn, I'll make sure of it!
The men took Emmett to a remote lodge. This is the place where he would die, but only after being beat to an unrecognizable state, losing an eye, and getting shot in the head. (Rest Is Graphic)
This disrespectful child. He will learn! He will die!
Please Don't do This! Have Mercy!
Three days later, Emmett Till's mangled body turned up in the Tallahatchie River, barely recognizable. The only person who could recognize him was his mother, and only by his fathers ring on his hand.
After discovering her son's dead body, Mrs. Tiller decided to have a open casket burial. She wanted the world to see what segregation and racism had done to her innocent son. This was the first death of an African American that was nationally reported. It was the beginning of the end for segregation.
