Big History Lessons with Josh and Shara! Pt. 1 The Big Bang
The Universe started with the big bang. This was the first threshold of the Universe because now it actually existed!
Everything That there is now and that has ever existed came from this one spot that burst into the big bang.
We don't know what happened before the big bang but, we know with good accuracy what happened afterwards.
We know that at first the Universe was super hot and dark. We also know that it only became filled with light after stars lit up.
With stars come solar systems and planets but, that is a topic for another time.
The next day... Dark Matter time!
Poeple often forget that normal matter, the stuff we are made of and that we can see, isn't the only "stuff" in the Universe. Infact matter only consists of a small fraction of everything in the universe! There is way more dark matter and dark energy than matter! The only thing is that we don't know very much about the two. Although we do know more about dark matter than we do about dark energy.
Dark matter consists of about 25% of the universe. It is also completely invisible or "dark" as its called because light doesn't interact with it.
The main reason we know that Dark Matter exists is that it is affected by gravity and without it gravity wouldn't be strong enough together our solar system let alone our entire galaxy.
While dark matter may not directly interact with light it can interact with it through gravity. We can observe light being "curved" by gravity whenever light passes by a dark matter spot.
There is still so much we don't know about dark matter! Lucky, we get closer and closer everyday to fully understanding it. Hopefully we can use the knowledge we gain from dark matter to helps us know more about dark energy as well.
