Lizabeth remembers her hometown as a barren shanty town with many poor people everywhere without jobs. She remembers her eyes, watering from dust everytime she opens them.
Lizabeth overhears her parents talking and hears her father sobbing and crying because he can't do any work from the Great Depression. This gets Lizabeth very mad because her father who is a strong man never cries.
After hearing her father sobbing and crying Lizabeth goes to miss Lottie's house with Joey and begins tearing out the Marigolds but miss Lottie is about to confront her.
