Mali's geography is mainly savanna. The savanna grasslands move up into plateous as you go north. 65% of the country is covered in desert or semi-desert. The lowest point of Mali is the Senegal River at 75 ft; the highest point in Mali is Hombori Tondo at 3,789 ft. The two largest rivers in Mali are the Niger and Senegal Rivers. The Niger River is considered to be Mali's life blood. The Niger River is a source of food, drinking water, irrigation, and transportation.

Malian culture is very diverse. They are really relaxed about the different cultures that are in Mali. Four-fifths of the people in Mali work in agriculture. Mali is renowned for wood carving, pottery, baskets, and textiles. The social class was organized like this; rulers, nobles, judges and administrators, artisans and farmers, and slaves. Mali's government is a republic.
