  • Nick Carraway , the narrator introduces himself by making us infer that he grew up learning not to hold people to his own high moral standard from the advice from his father and is a well-educated person .
  • "Whenever You feel like criticizing any one..."(10).
  • Nick is from Minnesota who rented a house in New York near Gatsby.  He shows up at his 2nd cousin's house, Daisy as a guest for dinner.
  • "I've got a nice place here"(7).
  • Nick greets Daisy and her friend who are excited to see him and talk over their doings as well as their daughter.
  • Tom rudely  leaves the dinner table due to a phone call and this characterizes him  with the impression as an aggressive and mean husband.
  • "She might have the decency not to telephone him at dinner.(15).
  • Nick gets Daisy's hint that he should talk more to her friend, Jordan Baker who is a golfer player.
  • Nick sees Gatsby looking out reaching for a green light that had seemed to be from Daisy's home. The green light had a meaning  as symbolism.
