  • The South African revolution  from 1989-1995
  • Protest
  • Dutch settlers were the existing leadership at the beginning of the revolution and then whites gained control.
  • Revolution
  • The discontent people had was because , of the riches that were found in the Orange Free Sate and that increased competition in Southern Africa Also how unfairly treated the nonwhites were
  • Recovery
  • Many different leaders like, Nelson Mandela, Desmonnd tutu and Steven biko still spoke out against apartheid. The ANC organized marches, strikes and other protests.
  • In Sharpsville, police acted violently to the blacks. Killing more than 60 people, and wounding 180 people. They also killed people at peaceful demonstrations. All because the government didn't like how the blacks were acting.
  • The government was retreating from its strict apartheid policies. They legalized the ANC, released Nelson Mandela, and blacks had a better life. The government also was with the blacks on their policies and how they're treated.
