Buck is a half St. Bernard and half Scotch Shepard dog, who lives on Judge Miller's place. Buck is, at four years old, the king of home. He was the pet of a wealthy judge.
Help! Manuel is taking me. I thought we were just going for a walk!
After an awful train ride, a scary man wearing a red coat and a boat ride with François I end up here. A weird place with a whole bunch of wild dogs... I do not know how I am going to survive. Dogs are not treated here like they are back home these humans abuse us animals. The dogs here are no good either.
I watched one of the kind dogs Curly get torn apart by a husky. She is attacked by that dog and others until François , using an ax, manages to chase them away from her. Curly is dead and I learned that these dogs do not show mercy.
I was taught by Francois and the other dogs how to be part of a sled team. I discovered the way to avoid abuse from the dogs and our owner. It is to learn quickly from my mistakes. Then I realize us dogs are ruled by the club and the fang, which is either we are clubbed for misbehaving or the other dogs bite a dog who is acting out.
I learn how to survive , defend myself and live in a world completely new to me. I also discover how to behave with the dogs and team. I am afraid at times, but I am determined to not show it to the other dogs or humans. I may tend to act like my ancestor the wolf but I will always be the same old Buck.
