Sissy, I was made fun of again for wanting to work with the space ship when I get older! I don't know if I want to do it anymore... What do you think I should do?
Annie, come with me to my work later, I think I may be able to explain a few things to you.
So, Annie, this is the super computer that we have! After you complete your calculations, you can plug your program into the supercomputer and it will check your work!
Sissy, that's so cool! What do you like about your job?
Well you see, Annie, with my job I am able to make a difference. I am able to explore worlds outside of our own. We are hoping to send astronauts to Mars in 2030! Maybe you could shoot to be a part of that?
Annie's 5th grade class had career day and they had to present to the class what they wanted to be. Annie wants to be an aerospace engineer, and things went badly when she told that class that is what she wanted to be.
Annie, being a girl in the aerospace field is the greatest thing ever. You have to work harder to prove that you can keep up. The reward is so great, you just have to work for it!
What if I get made fun of for being a girl?
Annie's sister took her to Kennedy Space Center to show her where she works in hopes to change her mind about aerospace engineering.
Where are we going, sissy?
Don't you worry Annie. We are going to the place that made me fall in love with space.
Annie's sister explained her job a little more.
Annie, this is Cape Canaveral. Here is where I feel in love with space. You see, it doesn't matter what anyone thinks of you. If you believe you can reach the stars, then who is going to stop you? Don't put any limitations on yourself and never stop trying your hardest. I promise that if you keep going and never give up, you will make it. Can you do that for me?
I can sissy. Thank you for bringing me here. You inspire me so much and I want to be like you one day!
Annie was scared to be a woman in the field; she didn't want to get made fun of. She didn't know how her sister did it!
Annie's sister decided she was going to take her to the one place she knew would make up her mind. This one place was the place that started it all for her.
Annie's sister took her to Cape Canaveral to show her the Falcon 9 rocket that was getting ready to launch. This is where she fell in love with space and where she hoped Annie would too. And she was right. Annie decided she wanted to be like her sister one day and take up aerospace engineering.
