My father wanted me, the oldest, to get married before Rachel, the youngest.
I thought you were Rachel!
Jacob Meets Esau
Jacob!! I missed you brother! Let us go.
Is that my uncle?
Let the children and animals walk at their own pace. I'll meet you at Seir.
I'm so much prettier than my sister Leah.
Genesis 28:12 "He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it." The Lord promised to give the land he was lying on to him and his descendants and all the people on earth would be blessed through him and his descendants.
Benjamin's born and Rachel dies
Oh Benjamin! I'm sorry you won't grow up with a mother!
Genesis 29:20 "So Jacob served 7 years to get Rachel...But when evening came, Laban took his daughter Leah and gave her to Jacob." When Jacob realized it was Leah, he had to work 7 more years to earn Rachel. All together, they had many, many kids. God later said to Jacob, "Go back to the land of your fathers and to your relatives, and I will be with you." So Jacob took his wives, children, and livestock and returned to Canaan.
Genesis 32:3,7 (Before Jacob meets Esau) "Jacob sent messengers with cattle (to please Esau) ahead of him to his brother... In great fear Jacob divided the people with him into two groups.." Jacob sent his wives, sons, and possessions across the ford of Jabbok. Alone, he and a man wrestled until daybreak. The man saw he could not overpower Jacob. He touched his hip socket and they stopped fighting. The man was actually God! He said to Jacob, 'Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome.' Jacob soon saw Esau coming toward him with 400 men."
Genesis 35:16,18 They never went to Seir as Jacob had said he would to Esau. "Then they moved on from Bethel. While they were still some distance from Ephrath, Rachel began to gave birth and had great difficulty. As she breathed her last-for she was dying- she named her son Ben-Oni. But his father named him Benjamin."
