The Titanic was the second largest ocean liner of all time. It departed from Liverpool, England on April, 10, 1912.
The ship was 882 ft and 9 in in length and weighed 52,310 tons. It was the largest of its time. The Titanic had 3,327 passengers.
WOMEN AND CHILDREN FIRST
The Titanic had many luxuries on board such as a gym and a grand ballroom. In the ballroom there was a famous staircase called "The Grand Staircase". The ballroom was elegant and big.
In the early morning of April 15th, 1912. the Titanic struck an iceberg, four days into it's maiden voyage. The iceberg hit the side of the ship, resulting in 5 of its 16 compartments to open. The ship could stay afloat with no more then 4 or less compartments open.
The crew soon realized that the ship would sink, so they blared emergency alarms throughout the ship. Passengers were rushed to evacuate. The 20 lifeboats could hold 1, 178 people.
There were 778 survivors of the disaster. The last survivor of the Titanic died in 2014 The ship split in half and sank two hours after it hit the iceberg.
