The Underworld Mythology By: Edith Hamilton's Written by: Nina Castro
This is where one enters the Underworld. The river of Woe pours into the cocytus. When you enter the underworld an aged boatman is waiting there and "takes them across the water & to the farther bank" (Hamilton 39)
Theres too many ghost in here. "No room" (Hamilton 39) for me I can barley move.
"All the souls of the dead"(Hamilton 39) follow me.
On Gaurd of the gate, stands Cerberus, the 3 headed dog. The dog permits all spirits to enter, but once you enter you can never return.
"I will permit all spirits to enter" (Hamilton 39) and only spirits to enter.
As Cerberus the 3 headed dog let's the spirits in 3 judges are waiting behind the river of fire. They either send the wicked spirits to an never ending torture. "They send the good spirits to a place of blessednes" (Hamilton 39)
"The wicked ones will stay for everlasting torment" (Hamilton 39)
In Pluto's plalace when people enter they see "the in numeral amount of guest" (Hamilton 39). In side there is a wide place to walk. But no writer can really describe what it is like.
In the Underworld they have placed Erinyes. It has been placed by "Virgils in the underworld" (Hamilton 40). This is where they punish spirits from their sins on earth.
Because of my sins I went through "The door of false dreams" (Hamilton 40)
