*knock* *knock* *knock*
Mr. White begins to talk to Morris about a story he had been telling him about a monkey's paw that he had found in India . It was cursed from a fakir. Morris is reluctant to give Mr. White the paw.
Morris throws the paw into the fire and Mr. White saves it from burning. Mr. White makes the first wish for 200 pounds . Nothing is thought to have come from the paw but it is revealed Herbert was caught in machinery at work and the Whites are compensated with 200 pounds
Mr. White makes the third wish which is assumed to counteract the wish to bring Herbert back.
The knocking stops, Mrs. White is crying when Mr. White goes to her side to console her.
Mr. White looks outside after the knocking has stopped and sees nothing.
