- Just one year shy of celebrating the right to love who you want regardless of gender was met with HATE. An armed gun man killed 49 members of the LGBT community, while injuring many others at PULSE nightclub in Orlando, FL. This was one of the biggest mass shooting at that time. My theory on hate crimes is you can't judge others just because you dont like how someone choose to live their life.
- Same sex marriage has been an issue in the United States tracing back to the 1970 when a same sex couple applied for a marriage license and was denied. That case was then sent to the Supreme Court.
- SAME SEXMARRIAGE
- Many same sex couples were already in a civil union. However in 1996 President Clinton signed the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). This act basically stated that marriage is only for heterosexual couples. It allowed states to refuse same sex marriages. This law received a lot of lawsuits and backlash.
- In 2004, Massachusetts became the first state to honor same sex marriages. but it wasn't until June 26, 2015 that the US Supreme Court ruled in favor of Obergefell who's argument showed that the DOMA was unconstitutional to ban same sex marriage because that violated the 14th Amendment.

- LGBT PRIDE month is celebrated every June. It is to commemorate the Stonewall riots of 1969. The LGBT community has faced many adversities to try and be seen as equal citizens in the United States. As a result 3 presidents have openly recognized Pride month to show the solidarity of all human equality. Things have completely changed in history. The LGBT community is able to openly adopt children and are also able to carry their spouse on their insurance. They say it's a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow and being able to be treated as equal to heterosexual couples was just that. I support gay marriage and will continue to support my friends who are apart of this community. It is still some people who don't believe that same sex marriage is right however who are we to judge. Out of fear same sex couples had to hide who they were so if the law has accepted it and approves it that's all that matters
- The rainbow flag is the communities' symbol which shows the diversity in the community.
- Their plea is that they do respect it, respect it so deeply that they seek to find its fulfillment for themselves. Their hope is not to be condemned to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization's oldest institutions. They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law.
