  • The Homestead Act was passed by Abraham Lincoln to get more people in the U.S. It was passed on May 20, 1862 and it spanned all across the West if the U.S. The only form of payment was for people to live there for at least 5 years and have something grow or proper use of land.
  • The Louisiana Purchase was bought by Thomas Jefferson for 15,000,000 . dollars from the french. The French needed money for the Great French War. The purchase was made on April 30, 1803. Jefferson did not realize how big the purchase was because it stretches from the Gulf of Mexico to the Mississippi river in the east to the Rocky Mountain in the West.
  • In 1848, the U.S stole land from Mexico using the Mexican - American war as an excuse. Mexico was forced to surrender its land which was the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. This left Mexico with nothing due to the Debt Mexico had with the U.S.
