Setting: France (1800's - 1900's) Conflict: She doesn't have clothes or jewelry for the party. Mathilde Loisel was a pretty and charming woman with no dowry, no prospects, no way of any kind of being met. She married a a man named Monsieour Loisel. At the beginning of the story they get invited to a party.
Mathilde Loisel prepares for the party and she visits her friend Madame Forestier so she can lend her a necklace.
When Mathilde Loisel loses Madame Forestier's necklace. Mathilde and Monsieour begin to borrow money to pay for a new one.
