in the late 1600's and 1700's, many british citizens chose to move across the ocean to america. the reasons to leave were many, Britain was crowded, the standard of living was terrible, and many were poor

in 1754, the french built a fort in land that both england and france claimed as theirs. this began the french and indian war which lasted till 1763. britain ultimately won the conflict, but they became massively in debt and signed a deal with the indians that prevented colonists from colonizing the territory britain gained. this put the colonies at odds with england

in 1773 the tea act was created, which prevented the colonies from purchasing tea from anyone except the British
on December 16, members of the patriot group the sons of liberty broke onto a tea ship in Boston harbor dressed as Indians and threw all the tea they could find into the harbor in protest of the tea act
in response to the Boston tea party, the British government blockaded Boston harbor, disbanded their general assembly and reinforced this area with extra troops. tensions between the colonists and the british were boiling over, although a few colonists remained as loyalists
on April 19 1775, a group of British soldiers was sent to Lexington and Concord to seize militia weapons. when they reached there target they found heavy militia resistance, then someone fired a shot. The american revolution had begun
