"Salva I have a gun. I will shoot any lion that comes near."
Marial is gone and all I have is Uncle
"He heard them laughing. As Salva watched, one of the men aimed his gun at Uncle. Three shots rang out. Then the men ran away"
"The river. They're chasing us toward the river! Salva knew which river they meant: the Gilo river, which was along the border between Ethiopia and Sudan."
This scene depicts internal conflict of man vs self because Salva is thinking to himself that he lost Marial who helped him in hard times, and now Marial is dead so he has no friends and that makes him weak and unwilling to go on.
Here Uncle gets shot by the Nuer tribe and take's all of their water and supply's that makes them bound to die but Salva remembered what Uncle kept saying,"You see that rock, go to it and that's it."And then he kept saying you see that bush go to it and that's it. So that's what made him willing to go to that one tree and that's it.
This is when everybody in the refugee camp is forced to get out by the soldiers and pushed them all the way to the Gilo river which is the border between Ethiopia and Kenya.
