Storyboard Text

  • ELECTION OF 1828
  • Yes! Now I can finally kick the Native Americans off of their land.
  • Bill, you're fired. But at least John here, who supported me, is hired!
  • Ha! We won, now what are you going to do?
  • You should be asking what I WON'T do- enforce it.
  • Andrew Jackson was against John Quincy Adams. Jackson opposed the Tariff of Abomination, so that might've helped him win the election. He even had help from Martin Van Buren.
  • I suppose I can live with this.
  • Spoils system is when a president replaces his employees with people who support him. I don't agree with this because it's bad for the people who get fired.
  • Are we there yet?
  • Worcester, a missionary for the Native Americans sued Georgia for making an illegal treaty with the Native Americans. John Marshall ruled that Georgia was doing wrong things, but Georgia didn't listen and decided to continue. Then. the president decided not to enforce the laws.
  • Jackson Kills Someone in a Duel
  • The president signed a law that allowed him to take Native American lands if he gave them land west of the Mississippi in return.
  • The Native Americans were kicked off of their land and forced to walk for a long way with harsh treatment. Some of them even had to walk through winter, and they had already gotten diseases from the camps they were in.
  • A man said rude things about Jackson in a newspaper, so Jackson challenged him to a duel. Jackson took a bullet to the chest, but he shot back and killed the man.
